Triassic
I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
(Malachi 1:2-3) KJV
The Triassic is another microcosm of inductive reductive circular reasoning that we may wryly refer to as an “eddy in the space-time continuum.” It’s a tip of the hat to Douglas Adams, author of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Ecosystems in separate geographical locations (space) are being distributed across an induced historical narrative (time). It’s a space-time anomaly in the sense that the concepts of space and time have been switched.

Paleobotany and the evolution of plants
We’re studying the periods of geological history as described by Wilson N. Stewart.
This was the text book we used in grad school when we studied for a masters of science in Biology.
TRIASSIC
– Wilson N. Stewart, Paleobotany and the evolution of plants.
Arid to semiarid, savanna type climates. Rise of the cycadophytes, Ginkgoales. Diversification of conifers and ferns. Decline of glossopterids. First mammals; rise of the dinosaurs.
The sedimentary deposits assigned to the Triassic are a different ecosystem than the ocean floor (Cambrian), marine (Ordovician), coastal wetland (Silurian), forest (Devonian), and swamp (Carboniferous) ecosystems that we’ve seen so far. They’re separated by geography, not time. The Triassic is next in the progression being the arid to semi-arid interior of a continent.
However, the way that erosion, transportation and deposition work is that the material from all of these habitat types can end up in the same sedimentary formation as successive beds in the strata. The lower layers were the closest to where they were deposited, the upper layers were the furthest away.
