Based on the texts we, that’s me and the Holy spirit, have to conclude that there’s an army of horse-sized armor-plated locusts preparing for battle in the lower parts of the Earth RIGHT NOW. They’re there. Waiting. Probably very angry because it’s so hot. The connection between Revelation 9:1-3 and 16:10-11 may seem tenuous but it becomes stronger as we read further into Revelation chapter 9. The context in which people are gnawing their tongues for pain is because the locusts have scorpion-like venom.

They were told not to harm the grass or the trees or any other plant; they could harm only the people who did not have the mark of God’s seal on their foreheads. The locusts were not allowed to kill these people, but only to torture them for five months. The pain caused by the torture is like the pain caused by a scorpion’s sting. During those five months they will seek death, but will not find it; they will want to die, but death will flee from them.

There’s another connection we may make between the fifth trumpet and fifth vial; the seat of the beast. Again we have to read further into Revelation chapter 9 which connects us to where they came from: the seat of the beast and a kingdom full of darkness is sheol, the underworld realm of the dead.

The locusts looked like horses ready for battle; on their heads they had what seemed to be crowns of gold, and their faces were like human faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, their teeth were like lions’ teeth. Their chests were covered with what looked like iron breastplates, and the sound made by their wings was like the noise of many horse-drawn chariots rushing into battle. They have tails and stings like those of a scorpion, and it is with their tails that they have the power to hurt people for five months. They have a king ruling over them, who is the angel in charge of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon; in Greek the name is Apollyon (meaning “The Destroyer”).

What we can understand is that a star (probably the planet Mercury) falls from heaven which is the key to the bottomless pit. We’ve identified the bottomless pit as the molten core of the Earth. The angel of the bottomless pit is a demonic being who lives in Abraham’s bosom, which was vacated and left empty after the crucifixion. An extra-terrestrial impact causes the crust and mantle to crack open such that a direct route to sheol opens up. At this time the locust army comes pouring out ready for battle. People flee in panic and this connects us to several other passages of scripture which pertain the the plagues of the tribulation. The smoke that arises when the Earth splits open is enough to darken the sun, but there are also changes happening in the sun. The sun flares brighter then becomes dim, but it doesn’t go out. To the people on Earth it seems to be black because of the pall of smoke.

Popular Christian Culture Doctrine

Popular culture has taken the prophecy about an army of horse-sized armor-plated locusts who have a King called Apollyon to mean that Satan’s in charge of hell and there’s a wild party going on. Satan isn’t Apollyon simply because Satan isn’t in hell, he won’t be cast in there until after the battle of Armageddon. He definitely won’t be having a party.

Images of what these locusts may look like are surprisingly poor given the detailed description that we have of them. In a bizarre twist, and an example of how Christian teaching in the USA is dictated by Republican party politics, most conservative pastors teach that the locusts are actually black military helicopters that the United Nations is going to use to bring about a world wide government. #facepalm

We realize, of course, that the rationale for this is that horse-sized armor-plated locusts are the best description that an “ignorant Bronze Age goat herder,” could come up with for the supposed black helicopters of the United Nations, but this is the Word of God we’re dealing with. We don’t have to hammer square pegs into round holes. Besides, this comes from the same people who claim that the fact that all humanity shall see the glory of God during the Millennial Kingdom is a prophecy of satellite TV. #facepalm

Remember the angels who did not stay within the limits of their proper authority, but abandoned their own dwelling place: they are bound with eternal chains in the darkness below, where God is keeping them for that great Day on which they will be condemned.

The point that we want to make is that these creatures exist. Now. They’re a population of some kind of biological entity that’s been in existence for millennia. They’re down in the lower parts of the Earth right now. Waiting. Probably very hot and angry, and really ready to get out onto the surface of the Earth. The identity of these creatures is unknown. It’s pure speculation to attempt to come up with the origin of these beasts, the only clue that we have is the binding of the rebellious angels in the center of the Earth. They’re referred to in Jude 1:6.

The best idea we’ve seen to convey the sense of terror that we ought to have as we contemplate the fulfillment of this prophecy, is that the locusts are similar to the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. That should do the trick.

Back to our developing model of the process of the construction of the Millennial Kingdom and there’s more to be said about the impact of the star Wormwood. If the identity of this star is the planet Mercury, then the effect of this impact is what triggers the crust and mantle to split open.
