The Fifth Trumpet/Vial
Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet. I saw a star which had fallen down to the earth, and it was given the key to the abyss. The star opened the abyss, and smoke poured out of it, like the smoke from a large furnace; the sunlight and the air were darkened by the smoke from the abyss. Locusts came down out of the smoke upon the earth, and they were given the same kind of power that scorpions have.

Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast. Darkness fell over the beast’s kingdom, and people bit their tongues because of their pain, and they cursed the God of heaven for their pains and sores. But they did not turn from their evil ways.

The fifth trumpet/vial is an army of horse-sized armor-plated locusts which are probably at least as terrifying as the Xenomorphs in the Alien franchise. They emerge from rifts in the crust as tectonic activity gets underway.
This is the first plague which is able to distinguish between the people of God and everyone else. We mention it because there’s a theme emerging, and which will continue to develop, that the people of God were spared from danger because they were assembled together in a relatively safe place. The end times revival.
