Restricted Speech

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

(1 Timothy 2:11-12) KJV

They didn’t have a Constitution or a First Amendment in Paul’s day, but it looks like the New Testament is unconstitutional. That’s ironic given that many Evangelicals are gun-toting advocates of the Second Amendment.

Evangelicals have gotten their knickers in a twist by supporting the constitutional amendments which play nicely with male authority.

Which is it? Gun rights or free speech? You can’t have one without the other.

This is one of the reasons why the church, by-and-large, supports the separation of church and state. Originally the purpose of this separation was to protect the state from the church. No one wanted a state-sponsored religious denomination mandating how we were allowed to worship. This is the embodiment of our freedom of religion. The thing is, it’s been used by the church to make itself exempt from Federal law.

Sooner or later the powers that be will figure this out and use it as a way to try and shut the church down.
