Spiritual Possession

And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.

(Luke 7:21) NKJV

We can be possessed by evil spirits. We’ve deduced that spirits are vapor, so it’s simply a matter of breathing it in.

  • If a spirit is a vapor which, when inhaled, can affect our personality,
    • and there are evil spirits,
  • then an evil spirit can enter our body and affect our heart.

Once it dissolves in the blood it’s going to travel throughout the body after passing through the heart. The heart drives and motivates us, both by pumping blood, and also by being the seat of our soul and the emotions. If our emotions, drive and motivation are affected by the chemistry of a spirit which we’ve inhaled then, there’s no telling what that could cause us to do.

It’s not hard to see a connection with heart disease and mental illness. We realize that this suggestion may seem to be a reversion to the superstition that diseases, like epilepsy, are caused by demonic possession. The thing is that medical science, regardless of the advances which may give more detail about the chemicals involved and possible treatments, doesn’t tell us why people are the way they are, it only tells us how.

We may know that bipolar disorder, for instance, is caused by a chemical imbalance, but what causes the chemical imbalance? Who’s to say that the causes aren’t spiritual entities who are chemical compounds in vapor form?

We’re not trying to take medical science back to the dark ages. Medical science, taken in the context of Biblical teaching, has discovered the mechanism of spiritual possession they just call it something else.

Heart and soul make us unique, they drive and motivate us. Hopefully we’re motivated to seek the Lord, that’s really what were here for.
