No Night There
The city has no need of the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God shines on it, and the Lamb is its lamp. The peoples of the world will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their wealth into it. The gates of the city will stand open all day; they will never be closed, because there will be no night there.(Revelation 21:23-25) Good News Translation
Life is temporary. What comes next? God’s given us a description of what comes next and the choice of whether or not to believe it. We acknowledge belief in God’s testimony by accepting Jesus Christ as our savior.
God is unchanging, which means that he’s consistent. He doesn’t change, but often our understanding changes as we come into alignment with his will. About 20 years ago it occurred to us that gravity is a possible mechanism for the ordering of creation that took place on the second day. Little did we know it at the time, but by pursuing this idea and testing it against the scriptures to see if it holds up, we would find that it’s forms the basis of a unified theory of everything, from the physical ordering of creation to the plan of redemption through faith in Jesus Christ.
A Unified Theory of Everything
The image today is a nice attempt to express many of the elements that we know will be part of the new Jerusalem but it misses the point. The city will made of gold which is transparent like glass, so that there will be nothing to impede or obstruct the light of the glory of God – that’s why there’s no night there.
