But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
(2 Peter 3:10-12) NKJV
The elements will melt with fervent heat? Is Peter referring to the elements of the periodic table? We don’t need to know what Peter was thinking, we take it at face value as an example of Hypothesis 22.
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
(Colossians 2:8) ESV
Here is 1) a warning but it’s also 2) a place to start in deducing the nature of the second elementary particle.
- The warning is about being led astray by people who’re trying to sell you a false gospel.
- The first elementary particle is Alpha; God the Father; wisdom; the proton; Hydrogen (H+).
The gospel is that salvation is a gift of God’s grace made available to us through faith in Jesus Christ. Remember this:
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
(Romans 10:9-10) ESV
There’s only one gospel, so what are elemental spirits? The word elements is is a translation of the Greek word stoicheia. This is the origin of the word stoichiometry, which is a scientific term for something specific: the relationship between the relative quantities of substances taking part in a reaction or forming a compound, typically a ratio of whole integers. Why does it matter? Good question.
