Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the East, and there he put the man he had formed. He made all kinds of beautiful trees grow there and produce good fruit. In the middle of the garden stood the tree that gives life and the tree that gives knowledge of what is good and what is bad.(Genesis 2:8-9) Good News Translation
Genesis 2:8-9 is topical, not chronological. God planted a garden on the third day, and man was created on the sixth day. Since the garden was made for the man, then that’s how it’s described.

Here’s the thing: Evil existed, it’s not the result of Adam’s sin. Adam’s disobedience was the cause of the fall of man, but the creation was made in a fallen state, which is why there had to be a tree of knowledge.
This is what you have to understand: Adam didn’t cause the fall of creation, it was created fallen in order to manifest free will. Adam was the tipping point, but the creation was made to be tipped. It’s like the activation energy of a chemical reaction. Chemicals won’t react unless you bring them into contact with each other.
noun Chemistry.– Activation Energy, definition from Dictionary.com
1. the least amount of energy required to activate atoms or molecules to a state in which they can undergo a chemical reaction.
In the case of creation it was created in a fallen state, but God maintained it in a stable condition. When Adam and Eve sinned God withdrew most of this sustaining power and allowed it to begin decaying.
