War in Heaven
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
(Revelation 12:7) KJV
The dispensation of conscience, when man was banished from the garden of Eden, included the first purification of heaven. This is what Satan unwittingly accomplished with his rebellion and banishment to Earth.
It’s a common belief that the war in heaven was before the fall of man. The assumption being that Satan fell from heaven and then caused, or was, the serpent who beguiled Eve. However, based on a strict Biblical timeline of events this isn’t be possible. There are several reasons why it’s physically impossible for Satan to have been in the garden of Eden before the fall of man. If you’re interested, check out the post Satan wasn’t in Eden. He’s not the mastermind of a rebellion in heaven which predates the fall of man, he’s merely an opportunist.
The serpent in the garden of Eden quite independently went to Eve to catch her in words and get her to disobey God. This is an example of being too smart for your own good, and the offspring of the serpent were cursed to be without limbs and eat dust every day of their lives.
The fall of man in the garden of Eden led to the most ambitious hostile take over attempt in history. And Satan carried out God’s will because he’s a pawn just like everyone else.
