The inner and outer planets have elliptical orbits because they orbit the Earth-sun binary system. Binary system? That's cool, there's one of those in Star Wars, right? Tatooine? Binary sunset?
Eccentricity
Eccentricity is due to variation in the orbital radius of the Sun, not variation in the Earth-sun radial distance. The solar orbit is helical, origin of its Greek name "Helios".
Earth-sun Radius
Contrary to popular opinion, the Earth doesn't have an elliptical orbit of the sun. The Earth-sun radius is, for all practical purposes, constant.
Science Needs Faith
A lot of people are involved in the science vs. faith debate. This is rather ironic since what they refer to as "science" is a sad parody called mainstream science (SciPop) which requires just as much faith as any religion does.
Ellipses
Direct observation from Earth is that the planets appear to have elliptical orbits around the Sun. We observe this planetary system orbit the Earth every day. That means that the Earth is f1, the Sun is f2 in the elliptical orbits.
Kepler’s Laws
Kepler's laws don't prove heliocentricity, they prove that the sun is at one focus of elliptical planetary orbits. The Earth is the other focus. Kepler couldn't find the second focus because he was standing on it.

Kepler's Laws are the weakest point of the theoretical foundation of popular science (SciPop). The weakness is that Kepler's laws are derived empirically, but they're applied theoretically.
Numerical Computation of a Simple Orbit
Programming a computer to plot an ellipse with one focus isn't the same as providing a physical cause for why planetary orbits are elliptical. This is an example of scientific sleight-of-hand.

Either Kepler didn't understand his own laws, or he lied about them. Ellipses have two foci except, it seems, in the popular science SciPop heliocentric model (SciPop), in which elliptical planetary orbits have one.
