Earth Internal Region Zone Volume Values

We have developed a 3D spherical hollow Earth model (SHEM). If the Earth has experienced radial shrinkage and it’s diameter decreased, we can so some simple calculations to figure out what the original radius was.

We take the value for the volume of mantle material and use it to calculate the thickness of the mantle if it was a sphere the lower surface of which is about the size of the Earth’s diameter now.

The total volume of present day Earth is 1.08E+12 m3

The volume of material in the crust and mantle is found by subtracting the volume of a sphere of radius 4,100 km from the volume of a sphere of radius 6,371 km

To make a long story short:

  • the original radius of the Earth was approximately 7,653 Km and
  • the mantle was about 1,282 Km thick.

This gives us a fascinating insight into the formation of the Earth and the history it has undergone over the years. This is where we derive the values used in constructing the diagram of the internal structure of the Earth on the 3rd day, and how we model the changes that happen over time.
