Evolution Debunk: the Reptile-Mammal Transition

Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?

(Jeremiah 9:12) KJV

Matty’s Paradigm incorporates both macro- and micro-evolution, but they aren’t an entropy defying source of new complexity and diversity. Our genomes are decaying, and we call the process devolution.

We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) began our evangelistic outreach on Twitter in late 2015 thinking that it would be a great way to promote our Christian SciFi novel Biblio’s Blood. In it we develop a fictional type of computer system based on blood. The idea was to explore the possibility of building a computer which would be capable of having a soul and, ultimately, being born again. Little did we know that we would unleash a torrent of criticism from atheists and scientists.

It seemed necessary to respond to the criticism by explaining the logical process of deduction which lay at the heart of our Bible-based SciFi. We responded to every issue that came up. We provided answers when we had them, and we found answers when we didn’t. This body of work became what we call Matty’s Paradigm.

Very early on we were confronted by a member of the Twitter community who was insistent that the reptile-mammal transition proves evolution beyond any possible doubt. We’re providing a link to the book on Amazon and reproducing a portion of the blurb to illustrate the haughty and high-minded attitude of the author.

The Reptile-Mammal Transition is the most compelling case for macroevolution (the origin of novel forms of life by natural branching common descent). Besides the fossils covering millions of years, there’s a wealth of corroborating science data, from developmental biology to the latest genetics. Now how do those skeptical of evolution (whether they call themselves “creationists” or favor “Intelligent Design”) deal with all that evidence? They don’t.

Evolution Slam Dunk: Why the Reptile-Mammal Transition Proves Macroevolution & How Antievolutionists Ignore It

There is a very simple way to resolve this issue: the reptile-mammal transition isn’t an example of evolution, it’s abiogenesis. We have to remember what evolution is and incorporate some of the back story of the development of mainstream science (SciPop).

What is Evolution?

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

(Romans 1:22-23) KJV

The theory of evolution was originally developed as a way to rationalize the diversity of life on Earth presuming that there was no special creation. Or, if there was a special creation it didn’t include the development of life, it was just the original impetus which got the universe started. It’s part of the SciPop narrative of godless existence.

Christians in general have been on defense against the development of SciPop and they were completely overwhelmed by the development of this theory in the 20th century. Fortunately there arose some gifted people, such as Ken Ham, who stood their ground and exposed some obvious flaws in the evolution narrative. There are a couple of things to bear in mind:

  1. Firstly, the evidence of biological evolution, i.e. the change in frequency of inherited traits in a population of organisms, is abundant. Evolution is a process of genetic change which happens with every generation of offspring. This has been extensively documented.
  2. Secondly, despite the evidence of genetic change over time there’s no proof that this is the origin of early forms of life. We don’t have a time machine. We can’t go back to the past.

Applying the process of evolution to a theory of the origin of life is speculative. Thanks to people like Ken Ham this became an issue which SciPop had to deal with.

Evolution Theory vs. Process

The theory of evolution, Darwinian evolution, was shown to be so full of holes that it simply doesn’t work. However, evolution as a process of ongoing change has been abundantly documented. SciPop responded and split the development of life into abiogenesis and evolution. It adopted a new definition of evolution which is along the lines of:

Evolution is change in allele frequency in a population over time.

– Evolution, definition

By so doing it made evolution, according to its new definition, bullet proof. All of the speculation about past Earth history is now part of abiogenesis.

Devolution not Evolution

This is perfect for Matty’s Paradigm. We fully acknowledge that evolution is a process of genetic change over time, but we specify that it began after the fall of man in Genesis 3. The passage of traits from one generation to another, and the change in populations takes a lot of time. The mechanism of biological abiogenesis/evolution is the driving factor in developing a timescale for the earth of 4.6 billion years. The timescale is based on how long it would take to develop the human genome by purely natural processes according to the evolution narrative.

However, if we begin with a complete genome then, starting in Genesis 3 we see that evolution is the process of genetic decay as our genome becomes corrupted generation by generation. We call it devolution.

Devolution is change in allele frequency in a population, combined with accumulated mutations and DNA replication errors, that causes genomic decay and loss of variability over time. It began at the fall of man in Genesis chapter 3.

– Devolution, definition

This means that the creative work that God did during the 6 days of creation, from the splitting of water molecules to the verdant young Earth swarming with diversity, represents abiogenesis. The reptile-mammal transition is clear evidence of the systematic development of increasing complexity by God the creator during abiogenesis. We now have a context in which to place the process of evolution.

Devolution is the process of genetic change over time by which the animal kinds saved on Noah’s ark gave rise to the current distribution of biodiversity.

– Devolution, context

Using abiogenesis/evolution as a means to deny the creator God is an example of walking after the imagination of the heart. This is a problem, because Jeremiah also tells us this:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

(Jeremiah 17:9) KJV

Salvation

  1. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
    • believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
  2. confess your sin.
