Beside the Jordan

A voice cries out,
โ€œPrepare in the wilderness a road for the Lord!
Clear the way in the desert for our God!
Fill every valley;
level every mountain.
The hills will become a plain,
and the rough country will be made smooth.
Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all people will see it.
The Lord himself has promised this.โ€

(Isaiah 40:3-5) GNT

At that time John the Baptist came to the desert of Judea and started preaching. โ€œTurn away from your sins,โ€ he said, โ€œbecause the Kingdom of heaven is near!โ€ John was the man the prophet Isaiah was talking about when he said,

โ€œSomeone is shouting in the desert,
โ€˜Prepare a road for the Lord;
make a straight path for him to travel!โ€™โ€

John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair; he wore a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. People came to him from Jerusalem, from the whole province of Judea, and from all over the country near the Jordan River. They confessed their sins, and he baptized them in the Jordan.

(Matthew 3:1-6) GNT

For six months, between April and September 1999, we (me and the Holy spirit) were homeless. Most nights we camped in a secluded spot beside Jordan Lake, in Chatham County, North Carolina.

During this period we acquired some of our most valued possessions, all of which are books.

Salvation

  1. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
    • believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
  2. confess your sin.
