# Centrifugal Force

The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, And hastens to the place where it arose.

Measurements are what they are. The gravity of the Earth is very slightly weaker at the equator than it is at the poles. This happens to be because the Earth isn’t perfectly spherical and bulges at the equator.

Gravity decreases with altitude as one rises above the Earth’s surface because of a greater distance from the Earth’s center.

This means that gravity is less at the equator because the surface is further from the center than it is at the poles. In Matty’s Paradigm the Earth doesn’t rotate, the cosmos orbits a stationary spherical Earth. This is hard for the modern ear to hear but it’s an empirical observation.

Popular science (SciPop) is a blend of truth and error and so it has to mess with this simplicity. Theoretically, centrifugal force caused by the rotation of the Earth counteracts gravity, so gravity is less at the equator than at the poles because the Earth is rotating.

This is one of our examples of scientific sleight-of-hand. In SciPop the variation in gravitational force between the equator and the poles is a combination of two opposing factors:

1. Variations in Earth’s radius, and
2. Centrifugal force.

However, there’s only one measurement. It is what it is. The supposed rotation of the Earth is smoke and mirrors. It’s just SciPop inductively rationalizing the idea that the Earth is rotating. We measure what we measure, the strength of gravity is what it is, the rotation of the Earth is theoretical and can’t be proven.
