They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.(Job 17:16) KJV
“The bars of the pit” is a synonym for “the pillars of the earth.” They’re in the great gulf or “mega chasm” which is the region of Earth’s interior which mainstream science (SciPop) calls the “liquid outer core.”
Historically the earliest usage of any of these phrases is Job 17:16. Since “the pit” is referred to it’s speaking of sheol, not tehom. “The pit” is also known as tartarus, which is the molten core of the Earth. This was not exposed to view (of anyone under the Earth) until after the time of Peleg when the Earth’s crust collapsed and tectonic plates formed. This passage is referring to the interior of the Earth after the waters of the great deep have been driven off (Amos 7:4). Tehom is gone, all that’s left is open space.

Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.(Amos 7:4) KJV
We’re on a downward descent into the heart of the earth. So far we have considered Biblical references to physical features of the crust and mantle. As we go deeper we pass into the great gulf, which could also be rendered mega chasm, which is the region in the interior of the earth which SciPop arbitrarily calls the liquid outer core.
Yesterday we used a reference to the sides of the pit to ascertain that the pit includes the earth’s core and the great gulf of open space around it. That being the case the bars of the pit is referring to the pillars of the earth, the earth with her bars which were seen by Jonah.
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.(Jonah 2:6) KJV
