Soul Destroying

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

(Matthew 10:28) NKJV

“Soul destroying” is commonly used to mean “causing a person to feel very unhappy or depressed.” For example: the soul-destroying confinement of city life. This means that the soul is continuing in its unhappy state. It’s never taken to mean that the soul stops existing.

If the soul is eternal and continues after our body dies, and there’s no purgatory, what does it mean if our souls are destroyed in hell? Carrying over the meaning from its common usage, it must mean that the soul continues to experience the environmental conditions in hell. It doesn’t mean that the soul ends.

Salvation

  1. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
    • believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
  2. confess your sin.
