The Four Corners of the Earth
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds so that no wind should blow on the earth or the sea or against any tree.
(Revelation 7:1) Good News Translation
Some people believe that the Earth is flat. Some people also believe that the Bible describes a flat Earth. Neither of these are true. The Bible describes a spherical Earth which formed around a gravitational singularity.
A spherical Earth is at the center of a spherical cosmos, which just happens to be the observable universe.
The observable universe is a spherical region of the Universe comprising all matter that can be observed from Earth at the present time.

One of the reasons why people want to believe that the Bible describes a flat Earth is to discredit the Bible. A phrase which occurs in the Bible which appears to indicate that the Earth may be flat is the phrase the four corners of the earth. We find ourselves at one of those beautiful ironies that comes from using the process of deductive reasoning to construct a 3D spherical hollow Earth model.
We, that’s me and the Holy spirit, can allow for the possibility that the land has corners even though the planet is spherical. In the same way a beard can have corners but a man’s head isn’t square. We have to pay attention to context and nuance.
The Lord will raise a signal flag to show the nations that he is gathering together again the scattered people of Israel and Judah and bringing them back from the four corners of the earth.
(Isaiah 11:12) Good News Translation
The phrase “the four corners of the earth” occurs a few times in scripture but every time it’s in the context of the millennial kingdom, it’s never used in any other context.
We, that’s me and the Holy spirit, find that a nuance like this makes all the difference in the world. We’ve already established the spherical nature of the Earth from 1) direct observation, 2) scripture, and 3) we can deduce that sphericity is inherent to our core accretion model of planet formation which happened when gravity was created on the second day.
When he established the heavens, I was there;
(Proverbs 8:27) ESV
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
There’s a side effect to the creation of gravity that’s going to upset some people: if the Earth formed around a gravitational singularity then it’s spherical. It’s impossible for the Earth to be flat.

The doctrine of gravity is extensively developed throughout scripture and it allows us to develop a unified theory of everything.
A Unified Theory of Everything
- First cause
- Time
- Gravitation
- Electromagnetism (a unified field theory)
- Consciousness
- Redemption
To insist on inducing a rationalization of a phrase which has been taken out of context, and then failing to understand the nuance in the words, is unfortunate, but it’s out there.
But back to our discussion of “the four corners of the earth.” There are a couple of things to understand about the way in which this phrase is used: context and nuance.
- Context: Every time that this phrase occurs it’s in the context of the millennial kingdom. At that time the surface of the Earth will undergo tectonic upheaval and the resultant super-continent will have corners.
- Nuance: If, as flat earthers say, this passage means that the Earth has to be a flat square, they now have to make the case that human heads are also square.
Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
(Leviticus 19:27) KJV
