Soap and nitre, also known as lye, or anything else we use to cleanse ourselves, contains Hydroxyl (OH). This is frequently in the form of Sodium Hydroxide. It's part of a definition of the Hebrew word for soap.
Purging and Cleansing
The Son of God, through whom all things were made, not only made creation possible but his ongoing role throughout history has been to purge it of all impurity and corruption.
Create, purge: בֹּרִית – barar
Purging ties in with the broad narrative of scripture of refining and purification, the agent of which is the Lord Jesus Christ. Here's the meaning of the Hebrew root from which their word for soap is derived.
Soap: וּכְבֹרִ֖ית – borith
The coming judgment of God is described as like being washed with strong soap. The word translated "soap" has a direct application in Chemistry. Are we surprised? No, God really is a chemist.

Chemically, Hydroxyl (OH-) is a cleaning agent. It is at the alkaline end of the pH scale. Cleansing goes with the concepts of purification, refinement and sanctification. This is part of the purpose for which Jesus Christ was begotten.
