Truth is Light, Darkness is Evil
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(John 3:16) KJV
The period of history that brought us the scientific advances of Galileo, Kepler and Newton is called “The Enlightenment,” but tragically this was when the human race was plunged into spiritual darkness.
Arguably the most well-known verse in the whole Bible is John 3:16. Interestingly this comes in the context of a very clear statement about the opposing natures of light and darkness.
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
(John 3:19-21) KJV
We’re to understand that light came into the world, this being in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the light of the world, the truth incarnate.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
(John 1:14) KJV
And again:
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
(John 9:4-5) KJV
We know, however, that he was rejected by the people of his time. He has been rejected ever since and he is rejected by many today. For our devotional today it is important to understand the equivalence of light and truth, and the equivalence of darkness and evil. That which is not light, is dark. Therefore, that which is not truth, is evil. This brings me to the point we want to make today as a series of logic statements in a process of deductive reasoning.
Deductive Reasoning, examples
- IF God can’t lie,
- THEN the Bible is true.
- IF the Bible is true,
- THEN Jesus Christ is the living embodiment of truth,
- AND the Holy Spirit is its agent at work in the world today.
- THEN Jesus Christ is the living embodiment of truth,
- IF SciPop (the atheist human origins narrative) is an inductive rationalization of our existence which has
- no creator,
- no need of a savior,
- no spiritual realm
- and rejects the historical validity of Jesus Christ
- Then SciPop isn’t truth
