As we still have to ask God/Jesus for forgiveness, as we always did, why was a crucifixion necessary?
He Became Sin for Us
Christ had to become sin for us. This has a meaning which goes beyond the symbolism of Christ on the cross. It goes back to the nature of the matter of which the universe is made.
Propitiation
Propitiation is the price paid for our redemption. This was Jesus himself. He lived a sinless life and his sacrifice was sufficient to pay for the sins of the whole world.
