The compass point on the face of the depth is the location of a gravitational singularity. It's refered to as the foundation(s) of the earth. The circle that the compass metaphorically draws is the location of the firmament (heaven).

The largest number of Hebrew uses of the phrase the foundations of the earth have been rendered from the Hebrew root yasad. It's here where we find the meaning which ties us directly to our Biblical theory of gravity.

Life has an orientation. Earth is down and the sky is up. Hell is below, heaven is above. Whatever happened on the second day has to allow for the formation of heaven and hell.
