A Logical Antidote to Guilt

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

(Romans 3:21-23) ESV

Scientific advancement has reached the point where we really can know the answers to some of the questions that people have wondered about for millennia.

The problem is that the narrative into which this knowledge has been woven is moderated by peer review which serves to maintain the internal logical consistency of the popular science paradigm (SciPop). It’s run by people who are trying to validate their own existence – without God.

Let’s give you a little more context so that you’ll see why we’re doing this and where we’re coming from. We were raised Christian and were surrounded by the kind and loving people people of Christianity but we secretly hated it and wanted to break free. When we got the chance we went off to University to study anything we could find that would help us to understand how the theory of evolution could be the antidote to God. Here’s a summary of our rationale as a series of logic statements:

  1. IF the human race can be shown to have evolved from primitive ancestors,
    • THEN it wasn’t created as the Bible says.
  2. IF the creation of the human race part of the Bible isn’t true,
    • THEN how can we know if anything else in the Bible is true?
  3. IF none of the Bible is true,
    • THEN there’s no God.
  4. IF there’s no God,
    • THEN I can live however I want because there’s no judgment for sin.
  5. IF there’s no sin,
    • THEN I can live an immoral life and have no guilt.

The problem is, despite the flawless logic, it didn’t work. Denying the truth about God so that we may live an immoral life with no guilt has a glitch: we all still have guilt, crushing guilt for all of our unconfessed sin. Having faith in the popular science narrative of godless existence (SciPop) leads to the agony of unconfessed sin.

This, as it turns out, is the plight of all humanity. It’s reached epidemic proportions. Our youth are in despair as all they see is a continual bombardment of personality cults and pornography. Everything is meaningless. It looks like God is dead.

However, we can confess our sin, accept Jesus Christ and we don’t have to deny science or take a back seat on the bus of intellectual curiosity. You can have a deeper and richer understanding of science as a Christian than you could ever have as an atheist, because you can see how the Bible accommodates the physical evidence, the historical record, and have the peace of Christ in your heart.
