The sun orbits the Earth in a helical spiral. The sun is called Helios in Greek. Either the sun is called Helios because it has a helical orbit, or helices are called helices because they mimic the motion of the sun – Helios.
Most people want to argue etymology as a convenient distraction at this point.
The change in relative position of the sun during the course of a year is what causes the stars to move. The apparent motion of the stars is actual motion of the stars because of the gravitational interaction of the sun. The parallax angles that we measure are the same. The thing about Matty’s Paradigm is that it’s an interpretation of exactly the same physical evidence and empirical observations as the popular science paradigm.
There’s variation in the sun’s orbital radius but that’s not the same as the Earth-sun radius which is constant. The sun maintains a stable distance between the Earth and the firmament. As its orbit moves during the course of a year its orbital radius changes.

Assuming Heliocentricity changes geometry in a way that makes it seem as if the stars are further away than they really are. As such, we haven’t measured the stars.
