Where did the water come from?
The Hydrology of Eden Deduction 1
When the Lord God made the universe, there were no plants on the earth and no seeds had sprouted, because he had not sent any rain, and there was no one to cultivate the land; but water would come up from beneath the surface and water the ground.
(Genesis 2:4-6) Good News Translation
A stream flowed in Eden and watered the garden; beyond Eden it divided into four rivers. The first river is the Pishon; it flows around the country of Havilah. (Pure gold is found there and also rare perfume and precious stones.) The second river is the Gihon; it flows around the country of Cush. The third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria, and the fourth river is the Euphrates.
(Genesis 2:10-14) Good News Translation
Where did the water come from which watered the surface of the land? it up welled at Eden. Now, here’s the real question, how did the water get to Eden if there hadn’t been any rain?
- IF a river from Eden watered the surface of the Earth,
- BUT there hasn’t been any rain,
- THEN where did the water come from?
Let’s think through what we’ve been told here. Apparently the Earth had rivers but there hadn’t been any rain. Is this flowery poetic language or should we start digging for clues? We’re going to demonstrate how to deduce the answer by investigating further and asking more questions. Over the next few days we’ll ask a series of questions to construct a generalized model of the topography and hydrological cycle of the original Earth.
Deducing the Original Earth’s Hydrological Cycle
- Where did the water come from?
- What was protecting the North, West and South?
- Where is the great deep?
- Where did the rivers go?
- How did the sea return to the great deep?
- What sealed the fountains of the great deep?
Hydrology deduction 1: Where did the water come from to water the Earth if there hadn’t been any rain? By the time we’re finished asking and answering questions, we’ll understand why a mountain that filled the whole Earth is a repeating theme in the broad narrative of scripture.
