"The pillars of the earth" are incorporated into a 3D model of a spherical Earth in which they're part of Earth's internal structure. They don't require us to believe that the Earth is flat.

Hell is Consuming the Earth
The lowest hell is the core of the Earth which was kindled when God cursed the Earth. It's been consuming the Earth ever since then. The Earth is melting from the inside out.
Sheol
Sheol refers to life beyond the grave, quite literally an underworld realm of the dead. It's also modified in a variety of ways which can be grouped to correspond to the main regions of the interior of the Earth.
The Volume of Earth’s Mantle
It's very useful to know the volume of material in the Earth's crust and mantle, but before we move on it's also worthwhile to note that the Earth's crust and mantle have several Biblical synonyms.

Above and Below
A recurring theme in scripture is heaven above and Earth below. Orientation occurs for the first time on the second day. It's an ordering of the universe which occurred in response to the creation of gravity.
Graves and Pits
One of the repercussions of the fall of man was the start of nuclear decay. This in turn is the beginning of hell, since the explosive rate of decay, concentrated in the core of the Earth, caused the core to melt.
