Seek and You Will Find

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

(Matthew 7:7-8) ESV

There have been times in our life when we didn’t know what to do. Or perhaps we knew what to do but we didn’t know how to do it. Or maybe we knew what to do but we just didn’t want to do it.

It’s at times like these that we find our way by obeying a simple command: seek. As strange as this may sound the Bible can be treated as if it’s a predictive testable hypothesis. This means to say that, for instance, if we have a line of deductive reasoning about a natural phenomenon or process which is consistent with the broad narrative of scripture and we reach a logically certain conclusion then positive confirmation will be found in scripture, we just have to look for it: seek it.

The thing is, it’s not going to be hidden in some secret code. It’s going to be so obvious that people have stared at it for 2,000 years and not seen it. The power of the Holy Spirit is such that the words used will be precise descriptions of biology, chemistry or physics which has been dismissed as flowery poetic language. It’s Hypothesis 22.

Predictive Testable Hypothesis 22

  • IF the Holy Spirit is the power of God to inspire human writers,
    • AND the physics of the universe has been written in scripture so that it’s
      1. obvious and
      2. invisible,
  • THEN phrases or words that look like chemistry, physics, biology or geology should be treated as if they are chemistry, physics, biology or geology,
    • AND the science will be congruent with the scriptural context.

Following this process is how we’re able to answer the question: why did God create the universe? Knowing why gives us an insight as to how? and this allows us to resolve science with the Bible. The reason for why the universe was created in a fallen state, logically, was for the purpose of manifesting free will.

The reason for creation is the manifestation of sentient life with free will.

– The Reason for Creation

The purpose of creation is to give life to the souls that were with God in the beginning, before creation was made. Yet not just that. The idea is that God’s nature, his goodness and power, is manifested in creation so that it’s obvious that it was created by God.

The purpose of creation is to bring about the permanent physical separation of light from darkness, day from night, good from evil.

– The Purpose of Creation

We’ve been given an opportunity to realize this truth: God is the all-powerful creator. Then we’re able to choose for ourselves whether or not we want to have fellowship with him for eternity. That choice is made by accepting or rejecting Jesus Christ as our savior.

Why did God create the universe?
The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything:

God created the universe so that sentient beings with free will could make a choice between light or darkness, life or death.
