Even so, Come, Lord Jesus
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
(Revelation 22:20) KJV
If Jesus is coming quickly then what are we doing to get ready? Someone is supposed to be clearing the way, flattening the hills, straightening the curves and making the rough places smooth.
Salvation
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
(Ephesians 2:8-9) KJV
Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Our goal is to make this accessible to generations that are being raised from babies on the popular science narrative of godless existence (SciPop).
A Stumbling Block
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.
(Romans 14:13) KJV
How can we find application of this in our lives in the age of social media? It’s about removing obstacles that hinder the return of the King, but there are also obstacles that hinder people from believing in the King. In the Bible this kind of obstacle is called a stumbling block. We’ve considered mainstream science and the strong delusion, is it possible that SciPop has become an obstacle for many people?
It would appear to be the case because, one of the first responses that Christians get when we promote a Biblical world view is that, apparently science has disproved the Bible. What specific science exactly isn’t known, just “science.”
There’s a broad class of people who worship and idolize science but don’t actually know anything about it. They can parrot atheist propaganda but they don’t know it’s origin, it’s purpose or it’s meaning. We refer to these folk as scientifically illiterate science worshipers (SISWs). They’re the ideological progeny of Richard Dawkins, Bill Nye and Neil DeGrasse Tyson who’ve taught them that the answer to complex questions is “science.”
- Matty: How do you prove heliocentricity?
- SISW: Science, dumb-ass.
- Matty: How do you prove that nuclear decay has always been constant?
- SISW: Science, moron.
- Matty: How do you prove the evolutionary origin of humanity?
- SISW: Science, retard.
Rivers of Living Water
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(John 7:37-38) KJV
Having a knowledge of the use, development and history of science gives the Christian a considerable advantage. It’s the really fun part about serving the Lord. When you put it together with the other aspects of Christian life: prayer, service and diligent study; it’s fun to be able to pour forth answers to people who ask you questions.
Sow Seeds and Water
So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
(1 Corinthians 3:7) KJV
Of course, they’re probably going to whine and complain about the answers that you give them, but that’s their problem. Our role is to sow seeds and to water, not to convince people or make them believe.
Always be Ready
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
(1 Peter 3:15) KJV
God’s wisdom is supreme and he knew that giving us the responsibility of doing everything right would be a big mistake. The way that the gospel works doesn’t require us to have perfect understanding, nor to convey this perfectly to whomever we’re talking to. All that we have to do is be ready to give an answer to anyone, at anytime. The answer doesn’t have to be perfect, and we don’t need to intellectually dominate anyone, we just need to give an answer. It may be forthright honesty that wins someone to Christ. If we, in the integrity of our heart, give an answer to someone about the Bible or an aspect of science a seed has been sown. Someone else may water it. There may even be extensive discussion, but the convincing is done by the Holy Spirit working on the heart of the person with whom we’re communicating.
Remove the Stumbling Block
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
(1 Corinthians 8:9) KJV
We realized that it was important to take a stand for the Bible and attack SciPop because it’s become a stumbling block for many: deliberately put in their way to hinder their belief in Jesus Christ. It occurred to us that if it were possible to demonstrate that SciPop is contrived then this stumbling block would be removed.
However, science isn’t all bad. That’s why we have to parse the difference between science and SciPop, “science falsely so-called.” It must be handled with caution but who can deny the amazing benefits from medicine and technology? The danger lies in thinking that if science can build something as fantastic as the iPhone, then it must be right about the origin of humanity too. It isn’t. This is where the outward appearance of science as a carefully regulated method of investigation and a repository of knowledge has been abused. This is the stumbling block.
Salvation
- Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
- believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
- confess your sin.
