Spiritual Reins

{A Psalm of David.} Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide. Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.

(Psalms 26:1-3) KJV

The kidneys, referred to in the Bible as reins, regulate our physiology. They filter out the spirits which God sends to us as messengers. They’re a way in which God has put a bridle on us, by which we can be steered and controlled.

This idea builds on our theory that the seat of the soul is in the heart. It gives us a way to integrate the action of spiritual entities with metabolism. The idea comes from conflating the two seemingly different meanings of the word reins. It’s an example of Hypothesis 22.

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

The heart is the source of our drive and motivation and the heart can be acted upon by spiritual entities, vapors, which are inhaled and dissolve in the blood. The blood is processed in the kidneys which, by a remarkable coincidence, are referred to as reins.

Reins (noun) are a leather strap, fastened to each end of the bit of a bridle, by which the rider or driver controls a horse or other animal by pulling so as to exert pressure on the bit; any of certain other straps or thongs forming part of a harness, as a checkrein; any means of curbing, controlling, or directing; check; restraint; reins, the controlling or directing power.

– Reins, definition

If the thoughts and intents of the heart can be influenced by compounds which dissolve in the blood, and the kidneys regulate the blood, then the kidneys can regulate our thoughts and intents. The kidneys are, in a very practical way, reins that can be used to guide us.

Kidneys are Reins on our Heart

And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar.

(Exodus 29:13) KJV

We can imagine God holding our spiritual reins like the harness of a horse and directing us. However, there’s another way to understand the reins which ties into our developing hypotheses of the operation of the human body.

Renal (plural noun) the kidneys; the region of the kidneys, or the lower part of the back; (especially in Biblical use) the seat of the feelings or affections, formerly identified with the kidneys.

– Renal, definition

The Hebrew word sometimes translated as reins is elsewhere translated as kidneys. This is another usage of the word in modern language, and it’s the origin of the word renal. The kidneys process the blood and filter out toxins and pollution. They influence the chemistry of our blood.
