Carnal vs. Spiritual

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

(Romans 8:1) ESV

There’s no condemnation [M] to them that are in Christ Jesus because we’re quickened [q]. We walk not after the flesh [pG] but after the Spirit [A]. This gives us a gravitational mechanism for redemption.

A major theme of the Bible, particularly the New Testament, is that we have two natures: carnal and spiritual. These two natures are at war within us. Light vs. darkness, good vs. evil, play out in our lives as carnal vs. spiritual.

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.

(Romans 7:23) KJV

If we (all of us) desire to be truly spiritual then first we have to be born again by putting our faith in Jesus Christ, after that we can work to overcome our carnal nature.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

(Romans 8:6) KJV

We can also understand the opposing natures of carnal vs. spiritual in terms of our theory of gravity. Let’s remind ourselves of our working definition of gravity, which is Matty’s law of Biblical gravitation.

Gravity (A) is a field emitted from a created instance (a singularity) which causes a body to have attractive force (p) proportional to its mass and inversely proportional to the square of its distance from the source (pG).

G is the gravitational constant. This is a general physical law derived from empirical observations by using deduction.

– Matty’s Law of Biblical Gravitation

Agape gravity, God’s grace and forgiveness, is an upward push which propels our souls toward heaven. Mosaic gravity, M the law, is a downward pull which draws our souls into hell. These opposing forces are, among other things, the difference between giving and receiving.

But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

(Romans 3:21-23) NKJV

Mosaic gravity, M the law, condemns us because we’ve all fallen short of the glory of God. Yet M has no power to save us from the condemnation that it clearly establishes. The only hope for our salvation is q, the quickening which comes from believing in Jesus Christ.

Faith is believing in something that you can’t see, because of evidence.

– Faith, definition

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(Hebrews 12:1-2) KJV

Lay aside every weight isn’t a euphemism or a metaphorical description of what happens when we accept Jesus Christ as our savior. When we believe in Jesus Christ we’re quickened, and we have the power to overcome the real weight of real sin which is dragging us down to a real hell.

A well developed theme throughout the New Testament is that Christians can hinder their spiritual growth by continuing in sin, even after salvation. They’re still saved, but they’re still living in sin too, which defeats the purpose of the freedom that they’ve been given when they were regenerated by faith in Christ. We’ve been given the power to lay aside every weight, so why don’t we, why are we holding on to it? It’s much easier to run our race when we’re unencumbered.

In the Physics of Christianity we (that’s me and the Holy spirit) will lay out a gravitational mechanism for redemption which is deduced from Romans chapter 8. We’ll also lay out the trail of logical breadcrumbs which causes Newton’s second law of motion (F=MA) to resolve with the plan of redemption and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Salvation

  1. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
    • believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
  2. confess your sin.
